Diet Tips Following a Urostomy

Unless your healthcare team gives you specific instructions, people with a urostomy do not need a special diet.
However, there are a few tips you may want to keep in mind to avoid infections and urine odours:
- Drink at least six to eight cups (1.4 – 1.9 litres) of water and other fluids per day.
- You may want to limit certain foods that cause urine odour. These include[1]:
- Asparagus
- Fish
- Eggs
- Alcohol
- Vegetables, such as cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, kale and brussel sprouts
- Cheese (certain types)
- Baked beans
- Onions
- Some foods help fight urine odour. You may want to increase your intake of:
- Cranberry juice
- Buttermilk
- Parsley
- Yogurt
