Each individual and each ostomy is unique, requiring a specific solution to ensure the most comfortable fit and the greatest range of movement for each patient. Finding the best ostomy bag begins with working with your healthcare provider to better understand your ostomy and your body. From there, we encourage you to approach a number of ostomy bag manufacturers for samples. ConvaTec offers a range of one-piece and two-piece systems designed for stomas in a range of sizes and locations. Designed to minimise leakage, skin irritation and the need to manage your bag in public, our systems provide the comfort and security you need to lead a more confident life.
Ballooning occurs when air escapes from your stoma into the bag. To remedy this, either change the bag more frequently (at least once a day) or consider switching to a two-piece system that allows you to adjust or remove the bag without disturbing the underlying baseplate. Alternatively, choose a system with a drainable pouch and briefly open the outlet to release gas.
If you’re experiencing leakages, the issue is most likely with the fit of your baseplate. Choose a baseplate that has the appropriate plateau size for your stoma and consider selecting a cut-to-fit model if pre-cut models do not provide the appropriate fit. Ensure the bag is securely fastened to the baseplate and – if leaks persist – seek advice from your healthcare professional or STN.
